Inductors in Parallel

Inductance values

Add as many as you need; leave a row blank to ignore it.

Equivalent inductance

How to use this calculator

Enter each parallel inductor's value and unit, then add or remove rows; the equivalent inductance recalculates in real time. Uncoupled parallel inductors combine with the reciprocal rule, 1/L = 1/L₁ + 1/L₂ + … + 1/Lₙ (the same rule as resistors in parallel, or capacitors in series) — so the tool inverts each value, sums the reciprocals and inverts the result, which is always smaller than the smallest inductor.

What the value means in a circuit

Parallel inductors share the same voltage and split the current; combining them lowers the total inductance, which is used to fine-tune a value or to increase the current rating of a choke. As with the series tool, this assumes the inductors are independent — if they share a core, mutual inductance changes the result, so keep coupled coils out of this calculation or treat them as a single transformer.
