LC Tank Resonance

Tank values

Enter L and C; the resonant frequency f₀ appears live.

Resonant frequency

How to use this calculator

A parallel LC tank (or series LC) resonates at f₀ = 1 / (2π√(LC)), the single frequency where inductive and capacitive reactances cancel. Enter L and C in any units and the resonant frequency, angular frequency ω₀, and period T appear live. This is the same core equation used by the Resonant Frequency and LC Band‑Pass calculators, so the results are consistent across the suite.

What it means in a real circuit

An LC tank is the heart of RF oscillators, tunable filters, and matching networks. At f₀ the tank presents either a very high impedance (parallel) or very low impedance (series), which is how a radio "tunes" to a station or an oscillator locks to a frequency. In practice, component tolerances, ESR, and PCB parasitics shift the real resonance, so treat f₀ as the ideal starting point and verify on a network analyzer.
