Audio Power → SPL

Power & sensitivity

Enter amplifier power and the speaker's sensitivity (dB @ 1 W, 1 m).

dB

Estimated SPL

How to use this calculator

Speaker sensitivity is the SPL a driver produces at 1 m for 1 W of input (e.g. 90 dB). For any other power, SPL scales logarithmically: SPL = sens + 10·log₁₀(P). Enter the power in watts (or mW/kW) and the sensitivity in dB, and the estimated on-axis SPL at 1 m appears live, along with the dB change from the 1 W reference.

What it means in a real circuit

This is the quick way to predict how loud a system gets. Doubling power adds only 3 dB (a barely-perceptible change); a 10× power increase adds 10 dB (clearly louder). Use it to compare amplifiers and speakers, check headroom against a target SPL, or estimate how much power you need to reach a desired level at the listening position (before accounting for distance, room, and directivity).
